Thales, a global leader in air mobility high technology and air traffic management, and Drone XTR signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide an integrated solution for drone detection.
Nearly 2,500,000 drones have been registered in France in 2021. The proliferation of drones in the airspace raises security challenges to prevent accidents or even malicious acts from occurring. As one of the top three countries in the world in terms of drone solutions, France relies on a highly experienced ecosystem to secure the growing airspace. As part of this effort, Thales is partnering with Drone XTR to address emerging needs and offer the best possible solution to the customer in terms of airspace detection and management.
As a major industrial company, Thales is collaborating with a French start-up Drone XTR to provide customers with a state-of-the-art, scalable and agile solution. Drone XTR is a French company, which has been developing for 10 years a know-how of excellence in the field of UAVs using electronic signal detection, thus enabling the detection of most signal-emitting UAVs. Coupled with the TopSky – UAS solution from Thales, this offer allows users to discriminate between authorized and unauthorized flights but also locate the pilot if needed.
Thales and Drone XTR are committed to safely increasing the number of authorized drone operations in controlled and uncontrolled airspace.
This partnership will combine the expertise and experience of Thales and Drone XTR in drone detection to meet market expectations for robust and rapidly deployable solutions to combat the threat of malicious drones targeting critical infrastructure in France (nuclear power plants, ports, refineries, etc.). This solution will be capable of detecting drone intrusions, transmitting information (digital evidence and the position of the pilot) in order to alert the relevant authorities to neutralize the threat. As part of this agreement, Thales and Drone XTR will also work together to pursue commercial opportunities in the field of UTM (Unmanned Traffic Management) and surveillance.
