Second aeronautical equipment certificate issued for REVAL ATS digital tower system Tallinn, Estonia

Adacel Technologies Limited (Adacel) and Estonian Air Navigation Services (EANS) are happy to confirm a new milestone for REVAL.

The REVAL ATS digital tower system, deployed at Tartu Airport in Estonia, received the aeronautical equipment certificate from the Estonian Transport Administration. The system was developed by Adacel in close collaboration with EANS with the goal of transitioning Estonia’s regional airports to fully digital air traffic service operations.

“This certification embodies one of our core values to empower our customers and team members to reach their potential, and I could not be prouder of our close-knit collaboration and continued success,” shares Daniel Verret, Adacel’s CEO. “EANS’ revolutionary vision along with our employees’ technological expertise is transforming the Estonian’s airspace management and makes it possible to modernize air traffic services at regional airports around the world,” continues Mr. Verret.

“This is the second REVAL ATS system that was awarded the aeronautical equipment certificate. In November, 2022, the Estonian Transport Administration issued the first certificate for the REVAL system located at Kuressaare airport in Estonia. Thanks to the previously completed process, getting the certificate for the Tartu REVAL system went smoothly, and we are just as happy with this achievement”, said Ivar Värk, EANS CEO.

The system in Tartu is currently in active shadow operation mode, the last validation phase before going operational. During this phase, for testing purposes, the Tartu Aerodrome Flight Information Service (AFIS) is provided from a remote tower center in Tallinn, while the team at the traditional airport tower in Tartu retains full access to air traffic management systems and could take control if necessary.

“The shadow operations will last through March 10, 2023, after which we will submit the application to the Estonian Transport Administration to approve Tartu AFIS from the remote tower center in Tallinn. After that, we can start providing the service in Tartu from our remote tower center on a permanent basis,” explained Mr. Värk.

About REVAL

REVAL remote Air Traffic Services (ATS) tower system delivers a wide spectrum of digital tower operational solutions, from consulting services to system design, development, deployment, and support, for a successful transition to virtual tower operations. REVAL was built on modular, open architecture principles suitable for a variety of aerodrome operational needs, including integration with existing or new air traffic management, communication, navigation, and surveillance systems. REVAL was created to provide all the benefits of a remote tower with a more cost-effective approach.

The tower can be used remote or onsite, for single or multiple aerodrome operations. When used remote, this virtual ATC tower can operate independently in a one-to-one aerodrome control setting or as part of a multiple virtual tower center.
